This is an 8-day bird photography trip to Portugal in the choice of full board or self-catering where extra nights can be booked for the house but without the photo days.
For novice photographers, this is also a bird photography workshop where you learn useful tips and tricks, for experienced photographers, we can always learn from each other again. The photo workshops takes place under the supervision of a licensed bird guide.
The purpose of this bird photography is to make bird photos in a responsible way, encourage each other to make better photos and to exchange knowledge and skills.

This bird photography trip focuses mainly on the Great Bustard, Common Cranes, Little Bustards and Black-bellied Sandgrouses. For this purpose, 3 hides have been specially built, BSP4, BSP5 and BSP7.
But do not forget the other steppe birds such as Red Kite, Hoopoe, Corn Bunting, Calandra Lark, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Stone Curlew, Hen Harrier, Cattle Egret, Red-legged Partridge etc.
From hide BSP3 we have a chance to photograph among others the following species:
Osprey, Marsh Harrier, Black-tailed Godwit, Bar-tailed Godwit, Common Snipe, Flamingo, Water Pipit, Kingfisher, Iberian Magpie, Zitting Cisticola, Cetti’s Warbler, Wryneck, Spoonbill, Crested Lark, Skylark, different species of seagulls, Sandwich Tern, Hoopoe, etc.
There is also a possibility to take photos of other species from the bird hide BSP1 on Monte Horizonte with the chance of Cirl Bunting, Nuthatch, Short-toed Treecreeper, Wryneck, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Dunnock, Red-legged Partridge, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Bullfinch, Rock Bunting, Eurasian Skylark, Serin, Blackcap, Sardinian Warbler, Zitting Cisticola, Corn Bunting, Greenfinch, Bullfinch, Jay, Linnet, Wheatear, Robin, Spotless Starling, Grey Wagtail, Long-tailed Tit, Wren, etc.
In short, a bird photography journey that can deliver a lot.
Program:
The program can be changed in consultation with the photographers if desired.
Day 1:
Arrival at Monte Horizonte.
Day 2: Exploring the terrain and photographing birds on the terrain of Monte Horizonte or from the bird hide BSP1 on the site.
Day 3:
We leave 2 hours before sunrise to be on time at the location and to enter one of the BSP4, BSP5 or BSP7 hides in the dark. This day we go for the Common Cranes. We are back at 1.30 pm in the afternoon and after lunch you can use the bird hide at Monte Horizonte or do other activities.
Day 4:
Today you can use BSP1 or BSP3 bird hide. You will go to one of the hides on your own.
Day 5:
Today you can use BSP1 or BSP3 bird hide. You will go to one of the hides on your own.
Day 6:
We leave 2 hours before sunrise to be on time at the location and to enter one of the hides in the dark. This day we go for the Great Bustards, Common Cranes, Black-belied Sandgrouse, Iberian Magpies and some other species. We are back at 1.30 pm in the afternoon and after lunch you can use the bird hide at Monte Horizonte or do other activities.
Day 7:
Today you can also use the bird hide BSP1 or BSP3. You will go to one of the hides on your own.
Day 8:
End of bird photography trip. Departure or any longer stay at Monte Horizonte
Accomodation
Monte Horizonte is a small eco-friendly holiday park of 6 holiday homes built in 2008 on 20 hectares in the middle of nature with bird hide, swimming pool, terrace and wifi at the reception. The power supply is entirely on solar and wind energy.

Our bird photography trips have an occupation of at least 2 photographers and a maximum of 3 photographers. The bird guide is always present when going to the hides BSP4, BSP5 and BSP7 and is the third or fourth person.
You can choose whether you want to book the trip with or without meals, below are the two possibilities:
